John's Dorset Hedgerow and Mushroom Day
John's Dorset Hedgerow and Mushroom Day
Booking and Contact Details
Although I have run countless Hedgerow forays in the past this is the first one I have organised myself. It is to be based around my own village in West Dorset, with forays along the local hedgerows and in local woods and fields.
September is the month of mellow fruitfulness and there is a great deal to see and to pick. I estimate that we will find about thirty edible species of wild plants and there should be mushrooms around as well. We will get to visit grassland which has different fungi to what can be found in the New Forest. We may see Parasols, Field Mushrooms and Puffballs amongst many others. As always with foraging, there is no certainty, but I am hopeful we will find something good.
I will provide refreshments (good ones – you will not go hungry - or thirsty!) at odd times during the day and, if we have done well, a cook up at the end. I will tell you all about which wild plants and fungi are good to eat, which to avoid at all costs, how each species is best cooked etc.; the law and conservation will also be covered. The day will be very informal and should be enjoyable as well as useful.
I am sure you will have a great time and I look forward to seeing you in September.
The cost is £75 for adults, £15 for children under 16 and free for the under-fives.

I am sure you will have a great time and I look forward to see you in September.
