Common Penny-cress Thlaspi arvense

Common Penny-cressCommon Penny-cress (Thlaspi arvense). This is an "also look out for" from the Hairy Bittercress chapter.

Another member of the cabbage family, this plant is often found growing wild in summer vegetable gardens. Again it is slightly bitter but more suitable for cooking than the Winter-cresses. It is an easy plant to identify when mature because, like Honesty, it has completely round seed pods. The leaves are long, spear-shaped, with a coarsely saw-toothed edge. The flowers are white. Common Penny-cress is common in England (except in the north-west), and in eastern Scotland.
